It seems the holiday season is thrust upon us earlier every year. Just about the time the last doorbell rang on Halloween night, the Christmas ads started up on TV. And the holiday decorations in the stores have been up for weeks now. But the truth is, I love this time of year. Don’t you? In fact, maybe I’ll pull up my favorite Christmas playlist while I type this letter.
As we enter this season of Thanksgiving and the celebration of our Savior’s birth, all of us at ACTION have been looking back at this past year and thanking God for you. Your gifts of time, treasure, and prayer have made a very real difference in the lives of so many of our neighbors. I am grateful for volunteers like our friend, Kirk, who has regularly taken on projects to help an at-risk family or senior in need of assistance. I’m thankful for the dozens of men and women on our Ramp Teams who have made life more accessible for many families dealing with disabilities. And I so appreciate the hundreds of you who will enthusiastically volunteer at our 2019 Community Christmas Shoppes to make Christmas happen for thousands of children. We’re better together!
I am grateful that I get to hear stories from both sides of the coin, and I love sharing them with you. Stories from the volunteers who tell us that their time serving was way more fun and rewarding than they expected. And reports from those we serve who are so grateful for the difference you made in their lives. We’re better together!
Overall, 2019 has been a year of great accomplishments. Our Ramp Teams have completed 17 accessibility projects this year, and a half dozen more are scheduled. Serve Day in June had more churches partner together with us than ever before. And in December, we’ll launch 6 Community Christmas Shoppes throughout Ventura County that will touch the lives of more than 2,000 under-resourced families. We’re better together!
There is so much momentum as we move into the new year. To ensure that momentum continues, we need to raise $100,000 by December 31st. It feels daunting. But achieving that goal means we can finish the projects on the books for this year and launch into 2019 with the capacity to do more. Will you please be a part of that goal?
As you consider your year-end charitable giving, please include ACTION in your deliberations. I know there are many worthy causes asking for your generosity. But we like to say, “If you live here, give here,” because the impact of your gift will make a difference right here in our own neighborhoods. If you have been giving regularly, perhaps you would consider a special year-end gift. If you’ve never given before, there’s no better time than right now to make a difference.
Most importantly, thank you for your partnership. In the past year, you shared the gospel with your sleeves rolled up by collectively giving nearly 16,000 hours of service time. As a result, together we contributed more than $1 million in goods and services to individuals and families in need in Ventura County. Our community is better for it, and the Kingdom was elevated. And oh, did I mention… We’re better together!
