What is ACTION?
A.C.T.I.O.N. = Area Churches Taking Initiative On Needs
Vision: “Uniting Christians together to impact
their communities by showing God’s love in creative and practical ways.”
Goals:
- Address real needs in our community together as the Body of Christ.
- Organize large annual serving events and also many smaller projects.
- Help people put their faith into action.
- Expose Christians to real needs in their neighborhoods & the county.
- Facilitate long-term partnerships between leaders, congregations, and agencies for assessing and addressing community need.
- Preach the Gospel always, and when necessary, use words.
- The Past: Representatives from Bible Fellowship
Church, Vineyard Community Church, EV Free Church of the Conejo Valley,
and Calvary Community attended a meeting on November 7, 2003 with the leaders
of an event called “Agents of Grace”. Agents of Grace is an annual community
service day when many of the area churches in Greensboro, North Carolina
team up to pray, love, and serve together. It has also become a separate
non-profit that facilitates the unity of the churches in the area in works
of compassion. After this meeting, those present felt the call to pursue
God’s heart for church unity in our area and also for a greater emphasis
on servant evangelism. Over the last 5 years, a partnership of churches
stretching from Ventura to Agoura called ACTION formed. A large serving
day takes place each June, with more than 1000 participants each. Annual
Christmas Shoppes have been held to provide toys for hundreds of needy
families. Dozens of smaller partnership projects have taken place and
several local churches have launched new community outreach ministries.
- The Present: More than 60 local churches have
participated in ACTION projects. Each of them is committed to invite individuals
and other churches to participate in their efforts to bless and serve their
communities. Action Foundation formally launched in Spring of 2006 as
a resource to churches and agencies in Ventura County. Planning is currently
underway for our BIG community outreach and service weekend May 31-June
1, 2008. Throughout the year point people from various churches will lead
other smaller projects, as well as the Christmas Shoppes.
- The Future: The Body of Christ is being drawn together to address the spiritual and physical needs of our community. As the churches pursue a greater level of unity, trust, and involvement, the community will take notice. Churches are able to do much more together than we could ever accomplish individually. ACTION is not just an event, it is a partnership and a hope for how we as Christ’s followers can represent Him well in love, in service, in evangelism, and in unity.
